  • 180 mm (approx. 7.1")

Key specifications

  • Thickness: 20 mm
  • Edge options: Tongue & groove or straight edge
  • Surface: Planed smooth and flat (light sanding recommended after installation)
  • Lengths: Approximately 2–5 metres (6.5–16.5 ft)
  • Character: Attractive natural grain patterns with traditional warm tones

Why Douglas Fir?
Made from slow-grown, resinous timber, Douglas Fir offers excellent durability and stability. It has an interesting grain pattern and classic warm colour that works particularly well in period homes, while remaining strong enough for everyday use. Many customers choose it as a more stable and characterful alternative to standard softwoods or as a sympathetic replacement for original pitch pine floors.

Tongue & groove or straight edge?
Tongue & groove helps align the boards during installation, reduces draughts and strengthens the finished floor.
Straight edge boards are slightly quicker to lay and can be easier to retrofit in some situations.

Douglas Fir vs Pitch Pine
Douglas Fir shares many of the qualities that make pitch pine so popular — warm colour, attractive grain and good durability — but it is generally more dimensionally stable. This makes it an excellent choice where movement needs to be kept to a minimum, or when matching the look of traditional softwood floors in period properties.

Ideal Applications

  • Period property renovations
  • Replacing or matching existing pine or pitch pine floors
  • Living rooms, hallways and bedrooms
  • Projects that want solid wood character without the higher cost of hardwoods

Installation Notes
Boards should be acclimatised in the room before fitting. A light final sand after installation is recommended before applying oil, hardwax oil or lacquer. Douglas Fir takes finishes very well and responds beautifully to clear or lightly tinted oils that enhance the natural warm tones.

Reclaimed pitch pine used to make wooden flooring

Why redwood pine?

Scandinavian redwood, also known as Scots pine, is a very affordable solid wood flooring option. It has a lovely grain pattern and, as a lighter-coloured wood, it’s highly versatile, taking a wide variety of stain colours.

Alternatively, if you’re planning on painting your flooring or laying it as a subfloor, redwood pine floorboards are a cost-effective solution.

Machine used for tongue and groove flooring

Tongue & groove or straight edge?

A tongue and groove edging helps to line floorboards up when laying your flooring and prevents draughts due to the snug fit. As the boards are interconnected, it also strengthens the finished flooring.

Straight edge floorboards are a little quicker to install and can be retrofitted more easily than tongue and groove flooring.
