We’ve welcomed a new addition to our workshop this week - another 4-sided planer-moulder. This is the machine we use to plane all of our oak flooring and pine flooring, and to add tongue and groove edging where required.
Using this machine is the final and most satisfying part of the manufacturing process - the floorboards go in rough-sawn and cut-to-size, and come out the other end as beautiful, finished oak flooring or pine flooring!
We’re looking forward to transitioning to this machine for the orders we have next in line - reclaimed pitch pine flooring and Scandinavian redwood pine flooring!
The beauty of a 4-sided planer moulder is the ability to run rough sawn pitch pine board through one side and through the various cutting heads a finished pitch pine floorboard comes out the other end ready to build up an order. We have invested in multiple tooling options to enable our pitch pine flooring to be consistent and to a high level reducing the issues that can arise during flooring installation.
There is a lot going on under the hood of a 4-sided planer moulder and it takes a long time to learn how to set them up correctly. This used to be a full time job for someone years ago!
