Here’s a look at our most recent delivery of pitch pine beams just waiting for a new lease of life. They’re all reclaimed from old factories and mills and some of them reach up to 5.5 metres!
The first job is to move them around to the workshop (with the help of a forktruck) to begin the task of de-nailing. It’s not our favourite stage of the process because it’s pretty painstaking but once they’re resawn and the wood grain is exposed, it’s all worth it when we get our first look at how the flooring will turn out!
Pitch pine beams are incredibly heavy due to their density and large resin content. This makes them a great choice for renovation projects and also for planking up into pitch pine flooring. It produces a very hard wearing attractive pine flooring and will last hundreds of years if looked after.
These old pitch pine beams have come from various old buildings which are hundreds of years old. We are giving them a new life and will last a few hundred more years at least. It’s great to see the clean wood once we cut into them. Pitch pine has such a distinctive colour and grain pattern.
